Working in Kolkata
Main employers in Kolkata: IT and ITES, trading and FMCG distribution, port and logistics, education. Salt Lake Sector V and New Town (Rajarhat) host most IT and back-office employers; older banks, trading houses and shipping firms still sit around BBD Bagh and Park Street.
Living costs are lower than in most metros, so a salary that looks modest next to Mumbai or Bengaluru often goes further here.
