Salt Lake Sector V and New Town (Rajarhat) host most IT and back-office employers; older banks, trading houses and shipping firms still sit around BBD Bagh and Park Street. Across the city, the main sectors are IT and ITES, trading and FMCG distribution, port and logistics and education.

Local tip: Living costs are lower than in most metros, so a salary that looks modest next to Mumbai or Bengaluru often goes further here.

Other cities in West Bengal with regular openings include Howrah, Durgapur and Asansol.
